SCIENCE DAY REPORT

Every year, we celebrate Science day as the anniversary of the Raman effect; and this year we had three more occasions to celebrate which added to the speciality of the day.

• The International year of Chemistry
• The International year of Forests
• One hundred of Superconductivity

Our school celebrated all these with zealous spirit.

The celebrations started early in the week, on the 21st of the month with a quiz and a poster competition. The winners of the quiz were a team of two, composed of Vignesh Sivaraman of 11 F1 and Arvind Rameshwar of 9G.The poster competition was held on three different levels which were won by Shreya.Y of 6N, M.Shrinidhi of 7F and S.Swetha of 8 K.

On the 25th, celebrations began with an invocation to Mother Nature – a composition by poet Surada.

Dr.D.P.Sankaran the retired Dean and Head of Department of Chemistry at Loyola College graced the occasion with his presence as Chief guest along with his mentor Dr.Srinivasan. Both addressed the student gathering highlighting the achievements of various Nobel Laureates and how they seflessly dedicated their lives to the development of mankind.

Our beloved Dean and Director, Padmashri Dr. (Mrs)Y.G. Parthasarathy addressed the students enriching them with stories and anecdotes, driving in the importance of Science in everyday life. This was followed by the official release of the Health and Wellness Club’s inhouse publication- “In Shape”.

The Class nine students presented a skit to emphasise the need to reduce Carbon footprints and to Go Green. This was followed by a video and a dance performance describing the working of the Sodium-Potassium pump in an animal cell. A poem was then read out commemmorating Madame Marie Curie and her contribution to radioactivity. Next in line were two presentations – one on Superconductivity and the other on forests titled ‘The Deep Woods??’

As we reached the end of the programme, the winners of the A.K.Samban Award came up on stage to explain their ideas and received their awards from the Chief guest. The grand programme came to an end with the Vote of Thanks and the National Anthem.

Here’s hoping that our school will host many more such exciting and informative programmes…
