The PSBB group of schools presented their annual cultural extravaganza, the theme for this year being, “A Salute to the South”. It marked the 53rd anniversary of the school, and as expected, the whole program teemed with grandeur. The celebrations spanned a three day period, from the 16th to the 18th of August, 2010. It’s gratifying to note that the 3 days events were webcast live and that an audience of over 12000 watched it world over. This is a first for a school for an annual day
The program on all three days, started with a musical rendering to the Almighty, following which the activities and achievements of the school were ably highlighted by a presentation. Mr. Muralidhar’s powerful voice breathed life into the numerous accolades the school had received over the past year. Then the plethora of cultural events was kick-started by “Thennagam Endrendrum- a portrait gallery “, joint presentation of the tiny tots of both PSBB KK Nagar and T Nagar. The little ones, small though in size, dwarfed the enthusiasm of the consummate whole with their tribute to the South.
This was followed by PSBB T Nagar’s “Ente Keralam”, their offering of Kerala for the audience. This was well choreographed and creatively expressed. Many an aspect of Kerala, which is hard to bring onto stage, like the Vallankali and the plentiful traditional dance forms of Kerala, were expressed with élan.
The third event on stage,“Andhra Keerthi”, a PSBB KK Nagar’s representation of the various folk tales and cultural contributions, found fusion in the presentation of the tale of Annamacharya. It was remarkable to see Lord Venkateshwara, witness the whole tale, with the audience, never for a moment reacting to his favourite devotee’s saga, expressed by song, dance and drama.
“Andhra keerthi” was closely followed by “Karnataka Vaibhava “, another dance drama, this time dedicated to the marvelous mythology and the passionate history of Karnataka. This entire dance drama was presented as a narrative of a grandmother, engaging her grandchildren, by telling them about the glories of their state. Karnatka and its culture, were literally brought into the spotlight by PSBB Nungambakkam.
After Kerala, Andhra and Karnataka, it was the turn of “Chenthamizh Nadu” to bring the stage alive. The students of KK Nagar, this time sang the glories of our very own Tamil Nadu, in a classical Dance Drama, championing the role and power of Women who have occupied a pivotal position in the annals of history, of our state. From Poets to warriors, from goddesses to mothers, this culture fest, glorified the now-forgotten heroines of history.
What better way to wind up an enthralling stage festival than by presenting a finale of even more grandeur, jointly presented by all three PSBB schools! And it is on that note that “Etching on the Sands of Time- The Grand Finale “, began…
The architect of this awe-inspiring event, was none other than Dr. (Mrs.) YG Parthasarathy, a Padma Shri Awardee and Dean & Director of PSBB Schools. The various luminaries who graced the event on the three days were Dr.(Mrs.) Meena Muthiah, Secretary & Correspondent of Chettinad Vidhyashram, Dr. L.S Ganesh, professor, Dept. of Management Studies, IIT Madas, Dr. (Mrs.) Vyjayanthimala Bali, Kalaimamani Anita Ratnam, Smt. Gopika Varma of the royal family of Travancore and Mr. Daniel A. Kelin II , a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar, to name a few.
The guests, though varied in their talents and area of expertise, were unanimous in their praise for the entire celebrations, stating that it was a surreal journey into the glorious past of peninsular India, replete with pomp and splendour.
