Reverberations 2013 Report

Reverberations 2013, PSBB’s annual inter school cultural extravaganza, arrived with a bang this year, with schools displaying great alacrity in the various events organized. “Rever13s”, as it was dubbed, took place on the 27th, 29th and 30th of August 2013, and saw overwhelming participation from schools across the city.

Day 0 (27th August) kicked off at PSBB KK Nagar, with a first ever culturals “flash mob”- a spectacle where people randomly begin dancing as a crowd- by the students of PSBB, which set an effervescent tone for the day, the perfect mood against which the preliminary rounds of selection for events were conducted.

The prelims gave the participants an insight into what would be in store for them over the next two days- right from the quality of competition to the ethics of adjudicating. New events, such as Mono Acting, Comic Strip, etc., received equally appreciative participation, and old favourites, such as Ship Wreck and Block and Tackle served as arenas for students to display their wit and eloquence.

Day 1 (29th August) began at Vani Mahal, with PSBB staying true to its roots with our Dean and Director, Dr. Mrs. YG Parthasarathy, and the heads of both PSBB Nungambakkam and KK Nagar lighting a lamp, thereby formally inaugurating Reverberations 2013.

The events for the day began with Light Music, which kept the audience humming all day, thanks to the soulful melodies rendered by the participating musical ensembles, which included PSBB’s bands. An official Reverberations 2013 anthem was launched, composed and penned by our own students, and was well appreciated. It was followed by the Quiz finals, a true test of the teams’ knowledge on aplethora of fields. Green Screen, PSBB’s novel event and a new favourite, followed suit, and the hosts and the participants managed to prove their mettle with their abilities. A pleasant addition to the crowd was DJ Ashok, who entertained the audience with his music and well-timed gimmicks. Simultaneously, the Channel Surfing, AdZap and JAM events took place in the Mini Hall, with equal fun and fervor. The day ended with the Dance and Adaptune event, where students grooved to popular numbers and made the audience dance along with them too!

Anticipation reached its peak on Day 2 (30th August), where an interesting line- up of events ensued. Ship Wreck finals had the participants battling for the last word and their last chance to land a spot in the final Winners’ Event. A new event, Unplugged, challenged the musical proficiency of the participants- they were not allowed to use any electrical instruments. The host performance was loved by students and teachers alike. A surprise event, titled Cross Talk, had the popular RJ Balaji making a special appearance as a judge, and kept the audience in peals of laughter throughout, with his rib-tickling sense of humour. He grilled the contestants in his signature style, and made this unique event an unforgettable one. The final Winners’ Event had the crème de la crème of the cultural circuit battling it out, for the coveted Mr. / Ms. Reverbs title. The event brought out the best in each participant, and made judging a challenge for our special invitees. The valedictory function was graced by noted playback singer, Ms. Shweta Mohan, and Mr. Anirudh Ravichander, famous music director and PSBB alumnus. They lauded the event and reminisced about their school days, and also performed some of their popular numbers, at the request of the audience. Prizes were then distributed to the deserving winners. PS Senior Secondary School won the overall winner’s trophy, with Chettinad Vidyashram finishing a close second.

Michelangelo once said, “If you knew how much work went into it, you wouldn’t call it genius.” For the organizing committee of Reverberations 2013, all the hard work paid off in the most rewarding manner, with praise being showered on the immaculate planning and organization of the event. It will definitely be a standout memory in the hearts of all students who were a part of it.
