PSSBB TIMES 2009

EDITORIAL

As the seniors of this school. as the most experienced students around. we decided to impart some of our wisdom, which was accumulated over years of extreme hard work and sincere dedication (oh ho ho!!), to our beloved juniors. So we thought... (yeah I know what you're thinking. but we really can think!!)

We wanted to make a list of things that as PSBBians you ought to know (wink wink) . but then considering all the effort we have put in to remain in school for the past 12 years. we didn't want to risk it now!!

And then someone came up with the idea of writing about the 'Top 10 Ways to Become a Teacher's Pet' (and, trust us, it works even after catastrophic events) . but due to obvious reasons, that's going to be a secret, which is going to remain with us forever!!

So we even drafted an article about the best excuses we've heard for coming late to school. However, we realized that you guys know it already!!

The next idea was to describe the best ways to sleep in class without getting caught by our teachers. but we can't publish that!! So if you still wanna know, contact us in secret!

We finally wanted to write about what students sitting in the back bench do ..hmmm.and we mean . hmmm. but that would be very very dangerous.and we're just too young to die!!!

And after we broke our heads, pulled our hair out and got the rope all ready to hang ourselves. just as we got ready to burn the paper where we'd written our failed ideas, a thought struck us. a brilliantly wonderful thought!! And now you know how our editorial was born!

PS: Please do not hunt us down and kill us! We are on the run already!

PPS: PSBB Times would like to thank Niranjana Narayanan, 12G2 (who knows why!!)

CAMPUS CLIPPINGS

1. We congratulate Ghanshyam of 10E for having been selected as a member of the prestigious Mensa Club. The Mensa Club is a high IQ society and the entrance to this is gained by an extremely selective exam.

2. As a part of the ISA, Prashanth Mudumby and John V. John of Std.11 accompanied by Mrs. Ramah Vijayaraghavan to Beauchamp Leicester College UK, for the International Student Leadership Conference. They interacted with their counterparts from the UK, South Africa and Germany. It was an enriching experience for both of them.

3. PSBB celebrated its Golden Jubilee Anniversary in grand style. The three day event was a spectacle of dance, music and drama. Our talented students impressed the chief guest, Mr. David Kip Francis. Immense hard work went in to putting up this show and the results were for all to see.

4. Reverberations 2008 was a grand success with the intensely competitive participation of more than 25 schools from the city. A medley of extremely talented and famous celebrities such as Harris Jayaraj, Crazy Mohan, Chinmayi, Karthik Kumar, VJ Craig, Benny, Ujjainee, Bosskey, Uma Riaz Khan (phew.the list is endless!!) graced the occasion. DJ Ashok blew the roof off with his amazing music and raised the tempo sky high. The message board added spice and pizzazz to the entire event. The overall shield was won by BVM. Reverbs 2008 was definitely something which will stay in our memories forever.

5. Local whiz kids R.Sai Krishnan and Swarun Krishna bagged the first place in the TCS IT Wiz 2008. The usually glib quiz master was stunned by their immense knowledge. Both of them won state-of-the-art laptops along with trophies and other goodies. Three cheers for Sai and Swarun from the editorial board!!

6. Three of our students, Harini.H, Vipassana.V of 12E1 and Niranjana.N of 12G2 attended the Global Young Leaders' Conference June-July 2008, in Washington DC and New York. The Conference aimed at promoting internationalism and was attended by over 400 students from 46 countries across the world. The cultural exchange facilitated a better understanding of world events.

7. Vasudha Mishra along with Vishruth, Keerthana Kumar and Priyadarshini.J, organized an Out Reach programme at the MGR Nagar Corporation School. Through meaningful dialogue, they helped create awareness on topics such as freedom, responsibility and child labour. Congratulations!!

8. Geeth Prajwal Reddy of 12F1 was a part of the delegation of 54 Indian students, and six teachers, who went to Japan for a scientific and cultural exchange. They learnt a lot about the Japanese people, education, technology and environment. The trip was an enriching and entertaining experience.

9. Mrs. Malathi Sampathkumar, faculty of PSBB KKN, won the first prize in a debate on "Teachers or Parents are more Responsible for Moulding a Child" organized by Guru Shree Shanthi Vijay Jain Vidyalaya, Vepery. Her speech stressed on the fact that a child's home and school, play a complementary role. She was also the author of the prize winning entry on parent- child bonding in the Deccan Chronicle dated 13th November '08. We congratulate you ma'am!!

A 17th Century Desire

Discreetly pootling through the sky,
With a clear watch out for weather variations,
Is the prerogative of these winged wonders.

Avis-is how they are known as.
Many a time I sew together my 'trying' to
Break free desire; of shimmering through
The air, and sink it inside
My heart - a place tailor made ample enough
To lock all my emotional desires
That are fatuous to my country men
For whom, my scintillating ideas
Are always enveloped inside their bins.

Knowing my limitation as a 'human'
I now add my desire of ruling the sky to
My heart where it shall lay, always
Ready for a breakout.

50 Years of PSBB

Mrs. Valsa Balaji

Its been a long journey of accomplishment with a lot of learning experience. I feel like I'm growing younger simply by looking back. And I'm eager to gain momentum to forge ahead.

Mrs. Chandra Srinivasan:

For me the very delight of being associated with PSBB for 40 years has given meaning to my life. As a teacher, the dedication to light the candle of knowledge has given me a lot of motivation. I whole heartedly thank PSBB and my lofty profession.

My Special Thing

Everybody has a 'special thing' in life.it may be a material possession, or a place, or a hobby or even a memory...but its something close to their heart...something that makes them feel nice...something that helps them get through their worst of times...I've always wondered what my special thing is...but i could never place my finger on it.

It was a pleasantly cool October evening when I discovered my special thing. I was lying back on my lazy chair, stretched across my terrace, a book in my hand. The birds cooed and chirped and the breeze blew in discontinuous puffs, its varying rhythm departing a feel of tranquility...

Then there was a smooth, subtle change in the winds which I couldn't place...it threw a sense of excitement to the air...My fingers turned a page in the novel I was reading but my eyes skimmed over the words...There was now something distinctly different about the air and I could sense something was rousing...

The wind had turned a shade cooler and its speed had picked up just slightly...I could see the clothes clutching onto their lines as the wind tried to tug it away...The pages of my novel had gotten mixed up and I had completely given up trying to read. The wind was throwing itself at my face, carving the tiniest smiles on it...

My eyes scanned the sky at large without lifting my head, and saw the dark impending clouds...One might describe its color as depressing, but I found it pleasing...The air around felt magically sharp and then I noticed the chirping of birds had stopped.

The clouds had closed in and the wind had ceased...it was as if a big, grey blanket had blocked its path...There settled a strange sort of stillness around me. The faint smell of wet mud carried by the gentle breeze reached me, stimulating my senses.

The feeling of excitement grew more and more as the sky darkened and the smell of wet mud intensified. And then there was a sound...a hollow, roaring sound that put an end to all speculations of what was going to happen...a sound that made my heart beat faster in anticipation...the sound followed by a flash of light...

My head turned skywards and it came...thrilling my mind and body alike with its cool touch, as it fell on my cheek, bringing a true smile from my heart...the first drop of rain!!!

WRITERS BLOCK!

I think and think and think and think
I feel I am at my patience's brink
"A good topic to write on"! I moan
But oh my God! I have no idea of my own,
I am torn. How should my poem be?
As fresh as the grassy lawn
As delicate as the blossoms of spring
As vast as an albatross' wing
As lovely as the dew at dawn
As expressive as the eyes of a fawn
As lively as the morning town
As regal as an emperors crown
Aha! I've got it! O my! I am so thrilled!
An idea at last! Fresh off the grill.
What it is about, you might want to know..
The dilemma of a young poetess of course!!

Time Out

He lifted his arms
"Mate soon!" he said
As he locked his fingers
Behind his head

He thought of the move
He was soon to make
That would end the struggle
The victory he'd take

A mischievous smile
Stretched across his face,
As his eyes grew wide
In a pleased grimace

"My rook goes up
and kills your queen.
And off gallops my knight
To where your bishop has been."

I glared at the square
He had his moves clear
His analysis precise.
His calculation checked

I now racked my brain
To make a sensible move
'Bling! Bling!" the clock chimed
I seemed to have run outta time

And then he said
"She was all too dazed
I won today, since there was
No confidence left in her face!"
