APJ Abdul Kalam-distinguished defense scientist, outstanding missile technologist, scientific advisor to the government, forerunner for president-these are the words you would immediately associate with this charming old gentleman. But ask a student of P.S.B.B about this man and he/she will speak of him with admiration and fondness.
When Doctor Abdul Kalam came to our school during a two day long Triennial Education Project we watched his arrival with apprehension, wondering if this great man would enjoy the fruits of our creativity and hard work or look for the mistakes made by our not so perfect mental makeup. Yet from the moment he arrived, without any police escorts and glamour, Abdul Kalam became one of us.
His enthusiasm and energy were as boundless as his keen eyesight and observation. He read with great interest all the charts made by little hands, listened quietly to explanations of various phenomena delivered by nervous children, examined all the models painstakingly put together by many students and stepped into our hearts right away. Not only did he answer questions posed by students but also asked questions himself that forced children to think. He praised the efforts of all the students and won fans all the way. It was our great pleasure and privilege to have this simple erudite man in our midst who has in him the brains of a genius and the energy and enthusiasm of a teenager in an absolutely irresistible package.
People like him are those born to lead, are those who will never misuse their power, but use their power and position well to safeguard the interests of the common man. We wish Doctor Abdul Kalam success in the presidential elections and hope that this figure who stands testimony to the truest of Gandhian principles will help our country to scale greater heights than ever before!!
